Former Home Minister Charan Singh briefly served as the deputy Prime Minister of India from January 1979 to July 1979 in the Janata Party government. He was also sworn in as the Finance Minister. Along with Singh, Jagjivan Ram was also sworn in as the second Deputy PM.
