Charan Singh Archives needs a Research Scholar to research, write and communicate to the world the life and works of Chaudhary Charan Singh

The candidate: suitably educated, excellent communicator, and committed scholar.

  1. At least a Master’s degree in history, political science, economics, sociology or other social sciences from a premier academic institution.
  2. Deep interest in the political economy of India including economics, history, politics, agriculture and rural India.
  3. Proven ability for academic research and writing and analytical thinking.
  4. Ability to analyze and communicate effectively in English and Hindi.
  5. Self-driven with an ability and desire to take charge and get things done.
  6. Preferably with knowledge of the political history of North India.

The role:

  • Publish articles, books on Charan Singh’s life and works, based on material from the Charan Singh Papers at PM Museum and Library at Teen Murti and the Charan Singh Archives (CSA).
  • Besides research and writing, this role requires an ability to communicate to wide academic and lay audiences using all forms of mass media.
  1. Areas of research and publication include Charan Singh’s role in zamindari abolition, land consolidation and land reforms; his administrative record as minister in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi; his legislative record; his legislative and other public speeches, articles and books; his political life, manifestoes of his political parties from 1967; his approach to the vital questions of caste, religion and nationalism; and the stories around his character and personality as well as other topics
  2. The Scholar shall establish a framework for research and its output for multiple audiences in collaboration with the Steering Committee of the CSA.
  3. The Scholar will spend time studying ~250,000 pages donated by the family to The Charan Singh Papers at the Prime Minister’s Museum and Library, New Delhi; at the National Archives; and the books, photos, videos and audio content collected by the CSA since 2013.
  4. Work closely with CSA’s internet publishing partner to share output with the public in appropriate forms on social media like Facebook and Instagram.
  5. Collaborate with CSA’s digital design partner to create life history presentations and documentaries for varied audiences of youth, scholars, the masses across India in multiple languages including English and Hindi.
  6. Collaborate with scholars and others to organise seminars and conferences on Charan Singh and ideas dear to him on appropriate dates and days throughout the year.
  7. Compensation will not be a limiting factor for the right candidate.
